Equality and Diversity

NEWTEC's ethos is based on the belief that everyone trained, employed or cared for at NEWTEC has a right to equality of opportunities. NEWTEC aims to ensure that everyone in the organisation respects the existing diversity of culture, lifestyle, attitude, beliefs, identity, skills and abilities of individuals and groups.


NEWTEC will:
•    Not tolerate stereotyping of any kind, bullying or harassment and will take individual and collective responsibility to ensure this;
•    Promote an understanding of what equality and diversity means;
•    Identify the improvements that can contribute to a fairer culture and promote these to all staff and learners through equality action plans;
•    Identify the principles of group behaviour and embrace the impact of different cultures found in the learning environment and the community;
•    Ensure that all staff are trained in equality and diversity and on any future related legislation


In relation to the above, NEWTEC will identify and deal with:
•    The impact of discrimination on an individual and the organisation;
•    Raise awareness of the need for the individual and the organisation to respect individuality and celebrate differences;
•    Identify the presence of practical and communication barriers to equality and diversity in the organisation and take steps to overcome these barriers;
•    Appreciate and use the current legislation for supporting equality and diversity in the work place.
