Safeguarding

NEWTEC recognises that members of staff, contractors, volunteers and learners have a role in safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults (as defined by the Children Act 1989, the Education Act 2002 and the Children Act 2004).

NEWTEC will establish and maintain policies and procedures to provide a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults.  NEWTEC will operate according to the procedures established by the Local Safeguarding Children Board.

The Head of Learning Services is nominated by the Chief Executive to co-ordinate and manage the procedures related to the protection of children and young people.  The Head of Learning Services will co-ordinate a Safeguarding steering group that includes all Designated Safeguarding Officers and Deputies.

This policy applies to all provision for children, including 14-18 programmes, work placements, trips and visits.  NEWTEC will ensure that appropriate risk assessments will be undertaken before children and young people go on trips, visits or work placements. NEWTEC procedures, including advance approvals if required, will be followed in every case.

NEWTEC will promote the well being and safety of children and young people through the Safeguarding action plan.
