On this course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of what it is like to work with children. As you do so, you will practise and develop your English, Maths and ICT skills – these are the functional skills you will need for further studies or future employment relating to childcare. You can use the knowledge and skills gained on the course to help your own children or to decide if a career in childcare is the best choice for you.
COURSE CONTENT:
Topics include; the health and safety of children; childhood illnesses; play and child development; child behaviour problems; health and nutrition for young people.
You will also develop your ability to:
- read and write professionally
- use numbers and maths confidently
- communicate and organise using computers
FUTURE OPTIONS:
You may be able to go on to voluntary employment in the Early Years sector or a higher level of qualification such as:
- CACHE Level 1 Award in Caring for Children
- CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Pre-School Practice
- CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Childcare and Education
QUALIFICATIONS: (on successful completion)
OCR accreditation in Functional English, Maths and ICT (up to 3 qualifications at Entry 3)
NOCN Award in Progression in Childcare (Level 1)
You will need to have an appropriate level of English
(Some Entry 3 skills), and a willingness to learn.
If you wish to do a voluntary placement you will need to complete a CRB Disclosure form. This will help us to show that it is safe for you to work with children. You will need to pay for this.
