Learner Forum

NEWTEC Learner Forum is an opportunity for learners to express their opinions and make decisions regarding the planning, implementation, and evaluation of their learning experiences?

Following the Learner Forum on 16th July 2012, the following comments were made to NEWTEC for action:

"You Said"

"We will"

Learners are not aware of the end date of their classes

Make sure that all learners are informed of their end dates and add end dates to individual learning plans

Assessors do not follow up with appointment dates which are previously scheduled with learners

Ensure all assessors follow-up with appointments as scheduled with learners

Most learners have not been allocated assessors, and have already completed over 800 hours, above the requirement for their chosen course

Ensure all learners are allocated an assessor

All learners should be aware of room changes a week before attending their classes

Make sure all learners are informed of room changes a week before attending classes.  This information can also be obtained from reception

Classes need to be rescheduled, especially after having childcare in the morning, then functional skills maths and English, then childcare. Learners feel this is boring and some are wasting time waiting for the next part of their childcare course, as they do not need functional skills

Remind learners of the importance of achieving functional skills

Learners are given different information regarding courses depending on who they speak with. Communication should be more fluent and organised

Improve information, advice and guidance given to learners

Learners have seen improvement with the computers and printers - they would like more computers and printers in the classrooms including West Ham Lane

Invest in more computers for classrooms in 2012/13

Learners have observed some indirect bullying from learners and would like urgent action on this issue

Remind all learners of the Disciplinary Code and Procedures and ensure this is followed

Learners are very upset that exams start an hour after its allocated start time.  After waiting they are then told not enough papers so would not be able to sit the exam where they had to get childminders to look after their children or take the day off work

Review the exam procedures and develop plans to improve exams in 2012/2013

All Learners need to complete an intensive health and safety induction

DCYD learners would like their start time to change from 9.00am to 9.30am due to parents having to drop children to school

Review course inductions to ensure learners are fully inducted in Health & Safety

Consider the needs of learners and make individual arrangements to meet learners’ needs
